We offer a wide range of models in our assortment – both with diamonds and plain. In this guide, we will go through what differentiates them, so you can find the shank that suits you.

External profiles

The outer profile describes the ring's shape as seen from the side – in other words, the shape of the ring's exterior in cross-section. The shape affects both the ring's appearance and how it feels to wear. We offer five outer profiles:

Round

A classic rounded shape where the outside is evenly curved. If both the outer and inner surfaces are round, the ring will have an O-shaped cross-section – soft and comfortable from all angles.

Slightly domed

A subtly rounded profile that sits close to the finger while maintaining a soft curve. Slightly domed, it offers a middle ground between the round and domed profiles – discreet yet comfortable.

Cupped

A flatter profile with rounded sides. Domed rails provide a lower, more discreet expression compared to the round profile and suit those who prefer a ring that sits closer to the finger.

Straight

A straight, flat exterior gives the ring a modern and graphic expression. Straight shanks have clean edges and a minimalist feel.

Special

Unique profiles with special designs – for example, faceted surfaces with multiple planes that catch the light in a distinctive way. For those seeking something out of the ordinary.

Comfort on the inside

Just as important as the ring's appearance is its feel. That's why we always use a rounded or domed inside on our bands. This means the inside of the ring is never flat, but follows the shape of the finger for a comfortable fit.

A rounded inside provides a clearly arched profile that slides easily over the finger. A domed inside is slightly flatter but still rounded – a subtle difference that contributes to all-day comfort.

COLIÈNE-standard

All our rings have a rounded or domed inside. We never use a flat inside, as comfort is just as important as design.

Width & aspect ratio

Two measurements are crucial when choosing a band: width and profile height.

The width indicates how wide the ring is on the finger, measured in millimeters. Our plain rings are available in widths from 2.0 mm up to 8.0 mm, where narrower widths give a more feminine expression and wider widths a more robust impression. Our diamond rings are usually between 1.5 mm and 4 mm.

The profile height describes how much the ring sits above the finger, i.e., the height of the ring when viewed from the side. The profile height is given in millimeters and can be found on the product page for each ring. When matching two rings worn together, a matched profile height is key to a harmonious combination.

Metals & Karat Values

All our ring rails are made from 100% recycled gold. You can choose between several carat weights and shades depending on your preferences:

18 karat gold

Our most popular choice. Available in both yellow gold and white gold. 18k gold contains 75% pure gold and offers a rich, warm tone with excellent durability. White gold is rhodium plated for a bright, white finish. Our entire range is available in 18k.

14-karat gold

An excellent alternative that gives a slightly lighter tone than 18k. With 58.5% pure gold, 14k offers a good balance between quality and price.

9 carat gold

An unusual choice for rings that we are proud to offer. 9k gold contains 37.5% pure gold and is an affordable alternative without compromising on craftsmanship. Our 9k range is limited to eternity rings and plain rings.

COLIÈNE standard

We exclusively use 100% recycled gold in all our shanks. This means the same quality and purity as newly mined gold, but with a significantly smaller environmental impact.
