Find the perfect combination

Wearing multiple rings together is an art – and with the right combination, a harmonious whole is created that lasts over time. Whether you want to match an engagement ring with a wedding ring or create a personal ring stack, there are some important things to consider.

In this guide, we go through the most common combinations and what you should consider so that the rings fit perfectly together – without them wearing out or damaging each other.

What is profile height?

Profile height describes how much the ring rises above the finger – i.e., the ring's height as seen from the side. The profile height is given in millimeters and is stated on the product page for each ring.

When matching rings, it is in most cases best to choose rings with the same profile height. For example, a ring with a 3 mm profile height best suits another ring that also has a 3 mm profile height. This creates a smooth and harmonious profile when the rings are worn side by side.

It is not a requirement – but if you want your rings to look like a cohesive unit, matched profile height is the easiest way to achieve that.

Alliance ring + Plain ring

Combining an alliance ring with a plain ring is a classic and popular combination – for example, as an engagement ring and wedding ring. Since the stones of an alliance ring are set directly into the band, this combination is generally easy to achieve.

However, there are two things to consider for the best result:

Match the profile height
Just like with all ring combinations, the best result is achieved if you choose an alliance ring and a plain ring with the same profile height. An alliance ring with a 1.6 mm profile height looks best together with a plain ring that also has a 1.6 mm profile height. The profile height is specified in millimeters on each product page.

Choose an alliance ring without stones on the sides
Some alliance rings have stones that extend around the sides of the band, not just on the top. When such a ring is worn next to a plain ring, the stones on the side can rub against the plain ring. This can feel uncomfortable and lead to unnecessary wear on both rings over time.

Therefore, choose an alliance ring where the stones are only on the top of the band. Then the plain ring can lie closely without friction.

Solitaire ring + Plain band

When you want to wear a solitaire ring together with a plain band – for example, a diamond engagement ring and a simple wedding band – the way the diamond's setting sits on the ring is crucial.

The setting should sit on top of the band
Choose a solitaire ring where the prong setting sits on top of the band, rather than one where the setting is recessed into the band.

When the setting sits on top of the band, a natural space is created between the diamond and the plain band. This allows the rings to sit closely together without rubbing against each other.

If the setting is recessed into the band instead, the plain band will collide with the setting when the rings are worn together. This can lead to wear and tear on both rings over time – something you want to avoid with jewelry that is meant to last a lifetime.

Match the profile height
As with all ring combinations, the best result is achieved if you choose rings with the same profile height. Check the profile height in millimeters on the product pages to find a plain band that matches your solitaire ring.

Our solitaire rings are designed with claw settings that sit on top of the band – so that you can easily combine them with a plain wedding ring.

Solitaire ring + Eternity ring

The combination of a solitaire ring and an alliance ring is popular – it creates a luxurious and sparkling whole where the diamonds of both rings complement each other.

The same basic rule applies here as with a solitaire ring and a plain band: the solitaire ring's claw setting should sit on top of the band, not recessed into it. This creates space for the alliance ring to lie snugly next to it without the rings colliding.

Since the stones of the alliance ring are set in the band without raised settings, no problem arises from the alliance ring's side. It is the solitaire ring's setting that determines if the combination works.

Match the profile height
Ensure that both rings have the same profile height for a harmonious match. The profile height is indicated in millimeters on each product page.

Our solitaire rings are designed to be easily combined with an eternity ring. The setting sits on top of the band, providing space for the rings to sit comfortably together.

Halo ring + Alliance ring

A halo ring has a center stone surrounded by a circle of smaller diamonds, creating a wider and more ornate setting compared to a traditional solitaire ring. The combination with an eternity ring can be stunning – but it makes it even more important to consider the fit.

The setting's space is crucial
Just like with solitaire rings, the halo ring's setting should sit on top of the band. But since a halo setting is wider than a standard claw setting, it needs even more space above the ring it is worn next to.

Check that the underside of the setting has sufficient clearance above the eternity ring. If the lower edge of the setting rests against the eternity ring, it can lead to friction and wear – especially since the halo setting has a larger contact surface.

Match the profile height
As always, a matched profile height gives the best result. Check the measurements in millimeters on the product pages.

Almost all our halo rings have settings that are designed to be easy to match – as long as you choose rings with the same profile height. Please contact us if you want to double-check that your combination works.

Halo ring + Plain ring

The same principles apply when combining a halo ring with a plain band as with an eternity ring. The halo setting should sit on top of the band with sufficient clearance so that the underside of the setting does not rest against the plain band.

The plain band has no setting or stones of its own that could cause problems – it's the halo ring's wide setting that requires attention. As long as the setting has enough space and the profile height matches, this combination works excellently.

Curved wedding bands – designed for the perfect match

For those who want an alliance ring that fits perfectly next to a solitaire ring or halo ring, we offer alliance rings with a curve in the band. The curve allows the alliance ring to follow the shape of the setting and sit snugly without a gap.

The curve is available in two variations:

V-shaped curve – as in our Ciel model. The pointed shape fits around settings with a narrower base.

U-shaped curve – as in our Novelle model. The rounded shape fits around wider settings, such as halo rings.

Curved alliance rings can, of course, also be worn on their own, but their main strength is how seamlessly they fit next to a ring with a setting.
