That's how the diamond is held in place
The setting is the part of the ring that holds the diamond in place – a small but crucial detail that affects both the ring's appearance and how much light reaches the stone. The right setting enhances the diamond's brilliance, provides security, and contributes to the ring's overall look.
We use five different setting types in our assortment, each with its own characteristics and personality. In this guide, we will go through all of them so you can understand the differences and find the setting that best suits your ring.
Five ways to cut a diamond
Each setting style gives the ring a unique expression and affects how much light reaches the diamond, how protected the stone is, and how the ring feels to wear. Here's a quick overview of the five types we offer.
Claw setting
The diamond is held in place by thin metal prongs – usually four or six. This is the most classic setting, allowing maximum light and letting the stone be seen from all angles.
Pavé setting
Small diamonds are set closely together in rows and held in place by tiny metal beads. The result is a surface of continuous brilliance that makes the ring shimmer.
Binding-off
The diamonds are set flush with the metal band, so they are level with the surface of the ring. A modern, smooth profile where the stones blend into the metal, creating a discreet but elegant look.
Frame grip
A thin metal rim encloses the diamond all around its circumference. The stone is extra protected and gives the ring a sophisticated, modern look.
Carmosé setting
A center stone is surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds. The overall effect is a single large, sparkling surface, giving the ring a glamorous impression.
Claw setting – the classic setting
The prong setting is the most commonly used and well-known type of setting for engagement rings. The diamond is held in place by thin metal prongs that grip the stone and lift it above the band. Thanks to the open design, light enters from all sides, maximizing the diamond's brilliance and fire.
We offer two variations: 4-prong setting and 6-prong setting. A 4-prong setting provides a more open and airy look, showcasing more of the diamond. A 6-prong setting offers additional security and a more symmetrical appearance, especially on round diamonds. The choice between four and six prongs is primarily a matter of taste – both options hold the stone equally securely in place.
In our assortment, prong settings are used on all our solitaire rings and three-stone rings. Among the solitaires, you will find 4-prong settings on Aurore and Brielle, while Liora, Dioné, Solène, Astrelle, and Lunise have 6-prong settings. Among the eternity rings, Astra, Arielle, Lyra, and Novelle use prong settings to highlight each individual diamond.

All our claw settings are carefully inspected. On solitaire rings, the claws are hand-mounted, while on eternity rings, the claw settings are often machine-set (milled) directly into the band. Regardless of the method, the claws are placed symmetrically and polished to be as discreet as possible – the stone, not the metal, should be the focus.
Pavé setting – a surface of light
Pavé setting means that small diamonds are set close to each other, often in one or more rows along the band. The diamonds are held in place by tiny metal beads that are barely visible, creating the impression of a continuous sparkling surface. The name comes from the French "pavé" – paved – and describes exactly what it looks like: a path of light.
Pavé setting is primarily used on our eternity rings and as a detail on the bands of halo rings. The Etérna is an expressive example with 70 small pavé-set diamonds in three continuous rows.
A pavé-set ring requires precision – each small diamond must be perfectly placed for the surface to appear smooth and continuous. It is a setting that rewards detailed work and provides maximum sparkle in relation to the size of the stones.
COLIÈNE standard
We only use pavé-set diamonds that match each other in color and clarity, to ensure a uniform surface without visible variations.
Stone setting – the stone in the metal
Flush setting – also called flush mounting or gypsy setting – means that the diamonds are set directly into the metal band so that they are level with the surface of the ring. Unlike a claw setting, where the stone is raised, a flush-set diamond lies protected within the band. This creates a smooth, modern profile that is practical for everyday wear.
The setting creates a distinct look where the diamonds blend into the metal rather than protruding. This gives a subdued and stylish impression that suits those who appreciate a more discreet elegance. Since the stones are protected, flush setting is also an excellent choice if you wear the ring daily.
In our assortment, you will find flush settings on the eternity rings Larisse, Evera, Vita, and Ciel. Larisse has a smooth profile with a row of flush-set diamonds, while Evera is wider and appears as two rings in one. Vita stands out with double rows of flush-set diamonds, and Ciel has a unique V-shaped design.

Our pavé rings are crafted with precision so that each diamond sits flat and securely. The metal edge around each stone is polished for a seamless transition between diamond and gold.
Stone setting – surrounded by by metal
Bezel setting – as it is also known in English – means that a thin metal rim encloses the diamond around its entire circumference. The stone rests embedded in a bowl of metal that holds it securely in place. It is one of the oldest setting methods and provides a modern, sophisticated look.
A bezel setting does not let in as much light as a prong setting, as the metal covers the sides of the diamond. Instead, the top of the stone – the table – and the light refracted there are highlighted. The result is a calmer, more directed shimmer that suits those looking for a look beyond the classic.
In our range, Lucienne is the model that uses a bezel setting. It is a modern solitaire ring with a wide, slightly domed shank where the diamond is embedded in a metal rim. Lucienne is the perfect choice for those who appreciate a design where the stone feels like an integrated part of the ring.

Our bezel setting is meticulously crafted so that the metal edge encloses the stone evenly and without gaps. The edge is polished to a smooth finish that harmonizes with the surface of the shank.
Carmosé setting – the halo that enhances
A halo setting means that a center stone is surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds – so-called halo stones. The halo creates the impression of a significantly larger diamond surface and gives a sparkling, glamorous look. It is the setting that defines our halo rings.
The halo stones are usually prong-set around the center stone, and the shape of the halo setting can vary. We offer a square halo setting on Nova and Vega, a round halo setting on Noréa, and an oval halo setting on Virelle. The shape of the halo setting affects the ring's silhouette and character.
A halo ring with a halo setting is an excellent choice if you want to maximize the visual impact. The halo stones reflect light from all directions and help the center stone appear larger and more prominent. For higher total carat, the size of the center stone and the number and size of the halo stones are affected.
COLIÈNE standard
We adjust the number and size of the halo diamonds according to the size of the center diamond to always achieve a harmonious and balanced look. All halo diamonds match each other in color and clarity.
Which lamp holder suits you?
The choice of setting ultimately comes down to personal taste and how you want the ring to be perceived. Here are some guidelines that can help you:
Do you want maximum brilliance?
Choose a claw setting. The claws lift the diamond and allow light to enter from all sides, creating the most sparkle. A 6-claw setting, in particular, on round diamonds gives a classic and timeless look.
Do you want a continuous sparkle?
Choose a pavé setting. If you love a ring that sparkles from every angle, an eternity ring with pavé-set diamonds is the right choice.
Do you want a smooth and modern profile?
Choose a channel setting. The stones are protected within the metal, giving a discreet but elegant look that works equally well for everyday wear and special occasions.
Do you want something unique?
Choose a bezel setting. The metal rim gives the ring a sophisticated look that stands out from the classic. Perfect if you appreciate modern design.
Do you want to maximize the visual impact?
Choose a halo setting. The halo of diamonds around the center stone creates a glamorous look where the overall impression is larger and more expressive.
