As we review the new additions to the collection for spring and summer, a clear pattern emerges. Shapes are softer, stones are larger, and bands are narrower. Three distinct trends reappear in the choices we've made, indicating the styles that appeal to many right now.
Seldom is it a single detail that makes a ring timeless. It is usually about the balance between the stone, setting, and band, and how they interact with the hand wearing the ring. When we add new models, this balance is the first thing we look for.
Here are three design motifs that recur in the new models – and why we believe they will stand the test of time.
1. The oval solitaire: soft shape, distinct presence
The round brilliant has long been the primary choice for solitaire rings. At the same time, we see a growing interest in the oval stone – and we understand why.
The oval cut gives a softer expression than the classic round brilliant. It follows the length of the finger, making the hand appear longer and more slender. At the same carat weight, an oval stone often appears larger because it stretches across more of the finger.
In a solitaire ring, the oval shape takes center stage. Without side stones, all focus is on the diamond's proportions, luster, and character. The clean design allows the stone's shape to stand out clearly and gives the ring an expression that feels both elegant and present.
For those hesitant to choose something other than a classic round diamond, it's worth remembering that the oval cut is not a new phenomenon. It has been used in exclusive jewelry for generations, combining a classic heritage with a slightly softer and more contemporary expression.
In this spring and summer collection, we are introducing several new solitaires with oval diamonds in both 18k yellow gold and white gold. The diamonds meet the same high-quality standards as the rest of our collection and are set to highlight the stone's shape and luster without making the overall look heavy.
2. The three-stone ring with an oval center stone and brilliant side stones
The three-stone ring carries classic symbolism where the three stones represent: past, present, and future. It is one of the few ring designs where the form itself tells a story, and perhaps that is why it is currently undergoing a modern reinterpretation.
In our new models, an oval center stone is combined with two round brilliant diamonds. The elongated shape creates a soft contrast to the side stones and gives an expression that feels both classic and modern. At the same time, the side stones help frame the center stone and enhance its proportions.
It's a design that suits most hands. The oval stone slims the silhouette, while the side stones add width and balance where the band meets the hand. The result is a ring with a distinct presence without being heavy, and one that ages beautifully because the proportions are classic.
In our new three-stone rings, the side stones are carefully matched to the center stone's color and clarity. This detail contributes more than one might think, making the ring appear thoughtfully designed in every detail.
3. Petite band: when the stone gets to speak
The third trend is about paring down. A narrower ring band that allows the stone to take center stage has become the new norm in the incoming models.
When the band is thinner, the diamond stands out more clearly, even if the carat weight is the same. The relationship between the ring and the stone changes, and the eye is drawn directly to the setting. It's a way to create a distinct expression without having to increase the size of the diamond. While the focus is on the stone's shape and proportions, the ring feels delicate and elegant on the hand thanks to the thin band.
A thinner band places higher demands on the metal and craftsmanship. We choose 14k and 18k gold for good durability and set the stone securely even in a more delicate construction. A petite ring should be able to be worn every day, year after year.
What the three trends have in common
When we look at the three directions together, we see a clear pattern. Shapes become softer, the band takes a step back, and the stone is given room to become the ring itself.
It's more about personal presence than status. The oval diamond creates a softer expression, the narrow band highlights the stone's proportions, and the three-stone ring adds character without feeling overdone.
For us at Coliène, this feels like a welcome direction. We believe in rings where proportions, materials, and craftsmanship speak for themselves. Therefore, these expressions are close to what we already value: carefully selected stones, thoughtful design, and rings that feel as relevant many years from now as they do today.
