It’s not the ring that’s expensive — it’s the journey to it
In the traditional jewelry industry, a ring passes through many hands before it reaches you. Raw material supplier, wholesaler, brand, distributor, retail chain, and finally the store on the high street. Each link adds its margin, and ultimately, every margin is paid by you, the end consumer.
When we looked at how prices are set, we realized that the cost of materials is rarely what makes a ring expensive. It's the surrounding infrastructure — rental agreements, warehousing, intermediaries, and markups that have built up over decades. We decided to build Coliène without those layers.
Recycled materials — same quality, lower footprint
All the gold we use is recycled. This means we don't pay for new mining or refining of new metal, but work with gold that is already in circulation and certified to the same purity as newly mined gold. 18k gold is 18k gold — whether it comes from a mine last year or from a smelt this year.
The same principle applies to our diamonds. We offer both natural and lab-grown diamonds, all conflict-free and certified to high standards. No expensive showrooms in prime locations
A retail space in a prestigious address can cost millions per year. Someone has to bear that cost — and ultimately, it's the customer who does, whether they enter the store or not. We have chosen a different path.
Coliène is digital first. We invest in a smooth web experience, in services like Try at home and free ring sizers, and in personal advice. You get the same guidance, but without having to pay for an address you might only visit once in your life.
Direct from the best suppliers
After many years in the industry, we have built direct relationships with experienced goldsmiths. This means we don't need to go through wholesalers or agents — we work directly with those who actually make the ring you receive.
This makes a difference in two ways. Firstly: the price. Every intermediary we remove is a margin that no longer burdens the final price. Secondly: quality. We can place demands directly on the craftsmanship, the choice of stones, and follow each ring through production.
We do one thing — and we do it properly
Unlike broad jewelry chains, we don't sell watches, or have a large assortment of necklaces, earrings, or tennis bracelets. We focus entirely on engagement and wedding rings.
That sounds like a limitation, but it is our strength. A focused assortment means we can put all our expertise, all our purchasing efforts, and all our logistics into the same product category. We don't tie up capital in hundreds of models that are rarely sold. We don't have seasonal collections that have to be put on sale. What you actually pay for at Coliène
When we talk about value for money, we don't mean that anything has been skimped on. On the contrary. The price always includes:
- Recycled 18k, 14k or 9k gold — gold and white gold
- Certified diamonds, natural or lab-grown
- Free engraving on the inside of the ring
- Free resizing if the ring doesn't fit perfectly
- Rhodium plating (standard on all white gold)
- Personal consultation before ordering
Our rings start around 2,500 kronor and move up through the premium segment.
Value for money does not mean cheap
We use the word "value for money" carefully. Cheap often implies that something has been compromised — material, craftsmanship, service, or ethics. None of that applies here. The difference is not what is included, but what no longer needs to be added.
What we have removed is not the quality. It's the unnecessary layers. And we want to be completely open about that difference – for us, transparency is part of the product itself.
